Solar Energy in Cambodia

Cambodia has many problems especially around both electricity generation and its supply which is both unreliable and expensive as consumer demand is rising but often (2020) droughts cut hydroelectric generation and Cambodia depends on imports from its neighbouring countries. Cambodia imported 26.6% of its energy mix in 2021. On January 26, 2018, the EAC issued a set of regulations to clarify the general conditions for installing and operating solar photovoltaic (PV) systems in Cambodia but capacity charges and regulations restrict Cambodians from generation from their own Solar PV even though that is currently the cheapest form of electricty generation. Solar power can be added astonishingly quickly when it is not prevented by technical limits or government regulations.
